Irene loves Joshua Radin

Irene never falls asleep in her carseat. Never. She is not like nearly every other baby in America that falls asleep on car rides, she instead likes to whine, fuss, and cry. She has been getting better but she has NEVER fallen asleep in the car…until Friday night. We had been running some errands and stopped by a friend’s house. We stayed for about 1.5 hours until Irene really started to get fussy. She needed her bath, food, and bed (in that order)…well, by the time we strapped her into the carseat she was in full-fledged screaming mode. This continued for a few minutes as we started the 5-minute drive home. I popped in a cd aunt-nurse-racher had made. Joshua Radin’s soft voice and mellow sounds touched a soft spot in Irene. She was asleep in 2 minutes. We were amazed.

So we tested this theory the following morning (Saturday)…Irene woke up at the usual time (6:30am) and ate and then wanted some awake time. We read some books and hung out on the couch…When she started getting fussy, we put her in the SWEET PEACE (the swinging device that plays sounds/music/vibrates/etc.)…anyway, again, she likes the SWEET PEACE but she NEVER falls asleep in it if you put her in there awake…NEVER. Until Saturday morning…the variable that changed again was JOSHUA RADIN! We plugged an ipod in with a list of about 7 of his songs (thanks to Rach! You get 8 million bonus points in the “favorite aunt contest”) and she was asleep by the middle of the first song!!!! It is amazing and funny and hilarious…his songs really are pretty melodic and peaceful and beautiful (even if they are a sad)…
